Lindsay Ward wrote “This book is Gray” which is about the color gray and how he always gets left out by all the other colors。 He decided to write his own book and old include different shades of gray。 This would be a great book to read to younger students who still are getting familiar with their colors and shapes。 This would be an amazing book to read while teaching about bullying and leaving people out。

Hey - all the colors count!!!

Genre: modern fantasy Grade level: K-2ndThis was on of my favorite books I have read for my bookshelf this far! It is such a sweet story about Gray just wants to be included! They are always leaving him out- even in the rainbow。 This book would be absolutely perfect for teaching colors and how they are in relationships with one another。 They are primaries, secondaries, and even achromatic! I didn’t know that was the term for neutral colors。 This would be an awesome book for art teachers as well。

Too old of a book for my PreK crowd, but it certainly entertained me。 Loved the interruptions by the colors and also the word play。

Jessie Storment

I thought this book would be great to read to younger kids to teach them about colors。 It can also teach them about primary and secondary colors since it is mentioned。 It also talks about the monochromatic colors。 It is also about thinking about others and how we include people in things we do。

Gray just wants to fit in but he's always being left out by the other colors。 So instead he creates his own story complete with a wolf, a kitten, and a hippo。 He thinks it's perfect even though others would call it a bit gloomy。 Eventually, the other crayons make Gray feel more valued and included in their stories - as one would expect from a well-written children's book!Students will adore the crayon characters and creative story! This is a chatty, high-energy picture book starring the color Gray, who is feeling neglected and decides to tell an all-gray story。 The more popular colors (several of them actually speak like surf dudes and Valley girls) butt in and keep trying to insert themselves in the story, much to Gray's dismay。 By the end of the story everyone learns a lesson that all the colors have a place and plenty of beautiful and awesome creatures are gray。 Of note is that there is a running joke some of the charac This is a chatty, high-energy picture book starring the color Gray, who is feeling neglected and decides to tell an all-gray story。 The more popular colors (several of them actually speak like surf dudes and Valley girls) butt in and keep trying to insert themselves in the story, much to Gray's dismay。 By the end of the story everyone learns a lesson that all the colors have a place and plenty of beautiful and awesome creatures are gray。 Of note is that there is a running joke some of the characters make about the animals in the story eating the gray kitten (this actually doesn't happen), which may bother some children。 Another character sprinkles the word "like" throughout her dialogue, a habit parents may not wish to encourage。 。。。more

This book is a story about the gray color who never gets to color anything and has decided to make his own book with only gray pictures。 No other colors are allowed。 All the other colors keep pestering gray about wanting to be in his book and how it is so dull and depressing。 Gray finally has enough and burst out about his feelings and all the other colors finally understand where he is getting at。 The other colors start to include gray in their coloring and it makes gray feel so much better。 Th This book is a story about the gray color who never gets to color anything and has decided to make his own book with only gray pictures。 No other colors are allowed。 All the other colors keep pestering gray about wanting to be in his book and how it is so dull and depressing。 Gray finally has enough and burst out about his feelings and all the other colors finally understand where he is getting at。 The other colors start to include gray in their coloring and it makes gray feel so much better。 This book is very cute and has some great illustrations。 Even though a lot of it is gray it still finds a way to be colorful and eye catching。 This is a great book for when you are feeling left out or not included。 It is a great way to show kids that they need to accept everyone for who they are。 。。。more

What a great picturebook that teaches the different colors of the rainbow including their functions—primary, secondary, achromatic, etc。 Full of witty jokes and humorous illustrations, this picturebook is perfect for fans of The Day the Crayons Quit and for ages 4-6, maybe even as a tool for 7 and 8 year olds to teach about colors and their function in science class。 This is also a great read-aloud, with the potential to color the story with many different colorful character voices。

I wanted to like this book but。。。 did not。 The "valley girl" yellow and "surfer dude" blue grated on my nerves。 The story the gray color is trying to tell is odd and boring then there is a lot of drama about someone ruining the story but suddenly on the next page everything is solved, colorful, and happy? Thumbs down。 I wanted to like this book but。。。 did not。 The "valley girl" yellow and "surfer dude" blue grated on my nerves。 The story the gray color is trying to tell is odd and boring then there is a lot of drama about someone ruining the story but suddenly on the next page everything is solved, colorful, and happy? I never thought of all the colors that are not included in a rainbow。 Poor gray and his other unfortunate colors have to avoid the limelight because they are not primary and complementary colors (it was very witty that these colors kept complimenting one another)。 This is a witty and charming book told in the viewpoint of the color gray and his mission to write an entire book in just the color gray。 Unfortunately, the other colors keep interrupting him from his pursuit。 (I loved the side convers I never thought of all the colors that are not included in a rainbow。 Poor gray and his other unfortunate colors have to avoid the limelight because they are not primary and complementary colors (it was very witty that these colors kept complimenting one another)。 This is a witty and charming book told in the viewpoint of the color gray and his mission to write an entire book in just the color gray。 Unfortunately, the other colors keep interrupting him from his pursuit。 (I loved the side conversations among the colors。) 。。。more

I love it when a character throws a tantrum。 Gray wants a book featuring him - the grayest book ever。 Gets off to a good start with a wolf, a kitten and a hippo。 Then those bright sparks arrive on the scene and decide to take over the story and give it some colour。Great puns, witty text and ongoing jokes。 Good book for discussing inclusion and also the colour wheel。

This book-within-a-book attempts a lot--feeling overlooked, the character Gray wants his own book in which everything is gray。 The the primary colors show up, then the secondary colors, and finally the achromatics, black and white。 So there is a bit of teaching about colors, a bit of a story, and lots of puns。 There is lots of color and lots of speech bubbles, and most of the book is done in one-page spreads, which kinda made it feel too busy for me with so much going on on each page。 It would h This book-within-a-book attempts a lot--feeling overlooked, the character Gray wants his own book in which everything is gray。 The the primary colors show up, then the secondary colors, and finally the achromatics, black and white。 So there is a bit of teaching about colors, a bit of a story, and lots of puns。 There is lots of color and lots of speech bubbles, and most of the book is done in one-page spreads, which kinda made it feel too busy for me with so much going on on each page。 It would have felt less cluttered to me had they all been 2-page spreads。 The humor is pretty good, but it also tends to get a little lost in everything else that's going on。 。。。more

Very creative, different children's story。 "Gray just wants to be included。 But the other colors are always leaving him out。 So he decides to create his own project: an all-gray book。 Once upon a time, there lived a wolf, a kitten, and a hippo…Gray just knows it’s going to be perfect。 But as he adds page after page, the Primary and Secondary colors show up…and they aren’t quite so complimentary。" Very creative, different children's story。 "Gray just wants to be included。 But the other colors are always leaving him out。 So he decides to create his own project: an all-gray book。 Once upon a time, there lived a wolf, a kitten, and a hippo…Gray just knows it’s going to be perfect。 But as he adds page after page, the Primary and Secondary colors show up…and they aren’t quite so complimentary。" 。。。more

There is a lot of dialogue in this story。 It definitely teaches the color groups and shows you the diversity of them as well。

Just a Girl Fighting Censorship

Cutesy without being funny。 A book that personifies colors。 Gray is whiney and the other colors were a bit annoying。 I liked the vocab (primary, monochromatic, etc)。Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Picture Books (2020)

Excellent and different take on celebrating one's unique place in the world, with colors as the characters。 I think adults will get as much out of it as kids。 Excellent and different take on celebrating one's unique place in the world, with colors as the characters。 I think adults will get as much out of it as kids。 。。。more
